DESCRIPTION
Grenoble original tram electric network opened in 1897; it was closed in 1952.
Plans for a modern LRT/tram network became concrete in years '80s, due to the results of a specific referendum among its inhabitants (with close success for who was in favour of tram return).
The first modern tram line (Line A) opened in 1987 (Gares-H.Dubedout-Grand Place) and it was extended in 1988, 1996-1997 and 2004. Line A currently runs from Fontaine La Poya (west) to Echirolles Denis Papin (south).
The second line (Line B) opened in 1990 (Universites-H. Dubedout) and it was extended in 1999, 2001, 2006 and 2014. Line B currently runs from Presquile (west) to Gieres Gare Universites (east).
The third line (Line C) opened in 2006 running from Seyssins La Prisme (south-west) to St. Martin Condillac (east); it was followed by Line D in 06-10-2007, which runs from Les Taillees Universites (north) to St. Martin d'Heres/Etienne Grappe (south).
Line E opened on 28-06-2014 (Saint Martin le Vinoux Hotel de Ville-Louise Michel) and it was extended in north-western direction on 13-07-2015 (Saint Martin le Vinoux Hotel de Ville-Fontanil Cornillon Palluel), replacing a former trolley-bus line serving the same route.
