DESCRIPTION
The core point of Sassari transit network is located at the railway station (Stazione FS), which is served by FS railway lines (to Porto Torres, Olbia and Cagliari via Chilivani) and FdS local railways (to Alghero, Sorso and Nulvi Tempio-Palau).
A modern LRT/tram system opened on October 2006 (Stazione FS-Emiciclo Garibaldi, on road track); this first section was extended on September 2009 (Stazione FS-Santa Maria di Pisa) alongside the existing Sassari-Sorso railway track (tram track and railway track are indipendent, except for a short segment at Sassari railway station where they cross each other).
Sassari tram line connects the city centre with the railway station (Stazione FS) and Santa Maria di Pisa peripheral suburb.
