DESCRIPTION
Seville transit network combines a light metro system and LRT/tram lines (one of them yet operating, others in planning phase).
Seville first tram line opened in 1887 (initial horse tram); electrification took place in 1887. As well as what happened in many other European towns, the original tram network was dismantled after world war II to be replaced by ordinary bus services (1960).
A modern LRT/tram line (MetroCentro) was opened on 28 October 2007 (Prado-Plaza Nueva) and it was extended on 15 April 2011 (Prado-San Bernardo). From Puerta de Jerez (university area) to San Bernardo MetroCentro it runs ground level along the same alignment of the underground metro Line 1; MetroCentro interchanges with the railway network at Cercanias stop.
