DESCRIPTION
Lille tram opened in 1874. This metric gauge tram was initially operated with horse traction; steam tramcars were introduced in 1880. The electrification took place in 1902, as well as the replacement of the the initial standard gauge rails with metric gauge rails. In 1966 the last standard gauge urban tram section was closed in Lille.
Since 1972 the tram network consists in two suburban tram lines: Line R (Lille-Roubaix), Line T (Lille-Tourcoing).
