DESCRIPTION Oostende tram (Kusstram) initial section (Oostende-Middelkerke) opened in 1885 (steam tram); a further section (Oostende-Le Coq-Blankenberghe) opened in 1886. The electrification of these first sections took place in 1908. Other extensions were completed in 1914 (Coxyde-La Panne), 1926 (Nieuport-Coxyde) and 1929 (Coxyde-La Panne); a further segment of the line (Nieuport-Coxyde) was electrified in 1928. The last extension was completed in 1998 (Esplanade de la Panne-gare de La Panne).
Kusstram, in its current asset, connects the cities and towns along the entire Belgian (West Flanders) coast, between De Panne near the French border and Knokke-Heist; it's considered the longest tram line in the world (not including the tram-train systems).
