DESCRIPTION
The first Porto tram line opened in 1872 (initial horse tram); electrification was completed in 1904. The network reached its maximum lenght in 1949 (about 81 km), but in the next 4 decades many routes and sections were closed. In 1996 the tram service was finally downgraded to heritage/touristic service.
