DESCRIPTION
Utrecht Sneltram opened in 1983 (Utrecht Moreelse Park-Nieuwegein-Zuid/Nieuwegein Doorslag); it was extended in 1985 (Nieuwegein Doorslag-IJsselstein Achterveld) and 2000 (IJsselstein Achterveld-IJsselstein-Zuid). This LRT/fast tram line connects the central railway station with some peripheral suburbs; Sneltram runs totally ground level in reserved lanes (with level crossings at the crossroads).
The track alignment is mostly north-south; it's constituted by a common section (Utrecht Centraal-Nieuwegein Stadscentrum) and 2 southern branches (Ijsselstein Zuid-Nieuwegein Stadscentrum; Nieuwegein Zuid-Nieuwegein Stadscentrum).
