DESCRIPTION Basel first electric tram line opened in 1895; the network was historically operated by several companies which merged in 1974 to form an unique operator.
The current nework consists in 12 lines; it is characterized by unusual crossings of the international borders (Line 10 lies partially in French territory; Line 8 lies partially in German territory).
