DESCRIPTION
Kiev tram opened in 1891 (initial horse tram); steam tramcars operated during 1892-1904 before network electrification (1904).
A first fast tram section (in reserved lanes) opened in 1977 going from the railway station (Vokzalna) to the western suburbs (Kiltseva Doroha); it was extended in 2010 with an intermediate southern branch to Mikhailsvska Borschahivska. A second fast tram section opened in 2000 (from Prospekt H. Vatutina to Vulytsia Miloslavskaya); it was taken out of service during 2009-2012 due to upgrades, then it reopend on October 2012 together with its new extension Vulytsia Miloslavskaya-Troeschina.
The current network is articulated in 22 lines.
