DESCRIPTION
The first Saint Petersburg tram line opened in 1863 (horse tram) and from that date the tram service has been continuously operated; the electrification was completed in 1907. During the years the network reached a remarkable extension, but after the collapse of the former USSR it has been constantly reduced (due to lack of funds and consequent routes/lines closures).
