DESCRIPTION
Bucharest Metro is quite recent (the first line opened in 1979), despite its initial plans were elaborated in years '30s; the enormous delays have been caused by the World War II and the following political changement (comunist regime). This system is different from many others operated in eastern Europe capitals; Bucharest metro has a modern design and open-spaced stations: it consists in 4 lines all passing through the city centre.
Metro M1 (1979) connects Dristor to Pantelimon; it was followed by Line M2 (opened in 1980) which runs north-south from Pipera to Berceni.
M3 opened in 1983; it runs from Precizei (west) to Anghel Saligny (east) sharing Eroilor-Nicolae Grigorescu section with M1.
Metro M4 opened in 2000; it goes from Gara de Nord to Parc Bazilescu (norh-west), interchanging with M1 at Basarab and Gara de Nord stops; it was extended in 2017 (Parc Bazilescu-Straulesti).
