DESCRIPTION
Cologne tram opened in 1877 (initial horse tram); it was totally electrified in 1907. The network was heavily damaged during world war II, but it was reconstructed and never ceased to be operated.
At the end of years '50s Cologne planned a Stadtbahn network (premetro), with underground sections in the city centre. The first premetro section opened in 1968 (Friesenplatz-Dom/Hauptbahnhof), followed by many further extensions (the last one opened in 2012-2013). The current premetro network consists in 11 lines.
