U1 opened in 1983 (Central Station-Rotkreuzplatz) and it was extended in 1997, 1998, 2003 and 2004; U1 currently runs from Olympia-Einkaufs-zentrum to Mangfallplatz. U1 and U2 share a common section (Munchen Hauptbahnhof-Kolumbusplatz).
