DESCRIPTION The Subway Line (or Clockwork Orange) opened in 1896 and it is one of the oldest metros in the world. Initially it was operated as a cable system moved by steam engines; electrification was completed in 1935. The metro service was suspended from 1977 to 1979 due to an heavy renewal; it reopened in 1980.
