DESCRIPTION Palma light metro system is articulated in 2 lines: M1 (from UIB to Pl. d'Espanya/Estaciò Intermodal), M2 (from Marratxi to Pl. d'Espanya/Estaciò Intermodal), M1 and M2 share a common section (Son Costa/Son Fontesa-Pl. d'Espanya/Estaciò Intermodal).
The first line (M1) opened on 25 April 2007 (line M1: Plaza de Espana-UIB/Universitat de les Illes Balears); it was extended in 2013 (Pl. d'Espanya-Marratxi). M1 connects Pl. d'Espanya/Estaciò Intermodal (an intermodal stop, which is located close to the railway station and to the main bus terminal) with the university campus UIB (Universitat de les Illes Balears), passing through the city centre; UIB and Son Sardina stops (the latter located inside an old and fashinating downtown area) are the only ones to be ground level.
M2 derives from a former railway line that was bundled in to the metro's service in 2013.
