DESCRIPTION Minsk has been the eighth Soviet town provided with an underground metro system. Metro plans where approved after that Minsk population overtook 1 million of inhabitants during years '50s and '60s; works started in 1977.
Minsk first metro line (Line 1/Moskovskaya) opened in 1984 running from Institut Kultury to Moskovskaya. The initial section was extended in 1986 (Moskovskaya-Vostok), 2007 (Vostok-Uruchye), 2012 (Institut Kultury-Petrovshchina) and 2014 (Petrovshchina-Malinovka).
The second metro line (Line 2/Avtozavodskaya) opened in 1990 running from from Traktorniy Zavod to Frunzenskaya. During years '90s (despite the Soviet crisis and thanks to the autonomy achieved by Belarus) Avtozavodskaya was extended two times: in 1995 (Frunzenskaya-Pushkinskaya) and 1997 (Traktorniy Zavod-Avtozavodskaya). Further extensions were completed in 2001 (Avtozavodskaya-Mogilyovskaya) and 2005 (Pushkinskaya-Kamennaya Gorka).
Moskovskaya and Avtozavodskaya interchange at Oktyabrskaya/Kupalovskaya stop (in the city centre).
