DESCRIPTION Helsinki metro opened in 1982, with further extensions in 1983, 1984, 1986, 1989, 1993, 1995 and 1998; it runs partially underground, connecting the city centre to the eastern suburbs.
The first phase Kamppi-Itakeskus has been completed in 1982-1983, successively extended up to Kontula (1986) and Mellunmaki (1989); in 1998 it has been integrated with an eastern branch (Itakeskus-Vuosaari). The last extension (Ruoholahti-Matinkyla) was completed in 2017.
