DESCRIPTION
The first Hannover tram line opened in 1891; electrification was completed in 1901. Starting from years '70s, part of the tram network was upgraded to premetro/Stadtbahn standards (combining ground level and underground sections); the first premetro section opened in 1975 (Wallensteinstrasse-Hauptbahnhof) followed by many further extensions (last extensions were completed in 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2014). The current network consists in 12 premetro lines.
