DESCRIPTION The first Bielefeld tram line opened in 1879. In the early years '70s the original tram network was gradually upgraded to premetro/stadtbahn standards, by the construction of tunnel sections (in 1971, 1991, 2000) in the central areas of the town. The current premetro network consists in 4 lines.
