DESCRIPTION
Rome metro network is articulated in 3 lines (Line A, Line B, Line C).
Line B opened in 1955 (Termini-Laurentina) and it was extended in 1990 (Termini-Rebibbia), 2012 (Bologna-Conca d'Oro) and 2015 (Conca d'Oro-Jonio). Line B currently runs from Laurentina to Rebibbia, with an intermediate branch from Bologna to Conca d'Oro (the so called "Line B1").
Line A opened in 1980 (Ottaviano-Cinecittà, Cinecittà-Anagnina); although works began in 1964, the first section was completed only in 1980 due to many technical and archaeological problems (initially it was chosen the "cut&cover" technique, but years later works were completed with the TBM/bored tunnel method). Line A was extended in 1999 (Ottaviano-Valle Aurelia) and 2000 (Valle Aurelia-Battistini); it currently runs from Battistini to Anagnina, serving Roma Termini railway station (where it also interchanges with Line B).
The third line (Line C, driverless metro) opened on November 2014 (Parco di Centocelle-Monte Compatri/Pantano) and it was extended in 2015 (Parco di Centocelle-Lodi) and 2018 (Lodi-San Giovanni). Line C runs underground from San Giovanni to east of Giardinetti stop, then it procedes ground level up to Monte Compatri/Pantano terminal (along the track of the former Roma-Fiuggi local railway).
