DESCRIPTION
The first metro line (M1 or T-Sol/Tramway du Sud-Ouest Lausannois) opened in 1991. This light metro (with an east-west main alignment) connects Renens local railway station (in the western side) to Lausanne-Flon suburban railway station (in the eastern side), passing through the city centre. M1 mostly runs at grade segregated from road traffic (with priority at road crossings), with the exception of 2 short underground sections (at Mallley stop and from Vigie to Lausanne-Flon stops).
The metro network also includes an automated metro line (M2, Metro Ouchy) opened on 27 October 2008; M2 runs from Ouchy to Les Croisettes, interchanging with the railway system at Gare CFF stop (in the central section). M2 also interchanges at Lausanne-Flon stop with both the other two main urban transit lines: metro M1 and LEB Railway (suburban trains).
