DESCRIPTION
Budapest Metro is the third oldest European metro system (after London and Athens); the metro network currently consists in 4 lines (M1, M2, M3, M4).
The first line (M1) opened in 1896, after only 2 years of works; its track connects the city centre to Varosliget city park. It interchanges with M2 and M3 at Deak Ferenk ter.
Concrete plans for a second line (M2) were elaborated in project was made only in 1950; due to long delays caused by political and economical problems, its construction was completed only in 1970. M2 runs from Deli (west) to Ors vezer tere (east), with a relevant intermediate station at Keleti railway stations (where M2 interchanges with M4).
M3 was completed in few years (1970-1976) and opened in 1976; it runs north-south from Ujpest-Kozpont to Kobanya-Kipest main alignement.
M4 opened in 2014; this driverless metro runs from Kelenfold vasutallomas to Keleti, interchanging with M3 (at Kalvin ter) and M2 (at Keleti).
