DESCRIPTION
Tours first tram opened in 1877; it was electrified in 1900. The original tram network closed in 1949. Since then public transport was operated by standard bus lines, but this network during the years reached the saturation.
A modern tram line (Line A) opened on August 2013, running north-south from Lycee Vaucanson (northern side) to Lycee Jean Monnet (southern side). The first tram line runs along the elder tram Line 1 alignment, mostly in reserved lanes. It serves important urban polarities (such as Gare SNCF, Palais des Sports) and populated suburbs (Sanitas, Deux-Lions, etc.); along the central section from Place de Choiseul to the railway station the tram adopts APS/Alimentation Par Sol system (without overhead electric supply).
