DESCRIPTION
Birmingham AirRail Link is an automated cable system (fixed rope) which operates connecting Birmingham International Airport with the Multi Modal Intherchange point at the airport railway station.
This cable systems replaced a previous magnetic levitation people-mover (Maglev) in service from 1984 to 1995; Maglev experience was abandoned because of its many technical problems (signalling troubles during snowy days, car body overweight, etc) which caused many service interruptions.
Air-Rail consists in two simple and detached 600 m long tracks, without switches and communications between tracks.
